My painting has nothing to do with Judaism nor is it an apology for the actions of Hamas on October 7th. My painting is about the illegal and immoral actions of a state and the U.S.’s complicity in those actions.

I do not use the term genocide lightly. The Bush, the Biden, and the Trump administrations all respectively labeled the actions of Sudan (1000’s of civilians killed, 2 million displaced), Myanmar (7,000 civilians killed, 1 million displaced), and China (who displaced and encamped 1 million Muslim civilians) as acts of genocide.

In all 3 of these cases the countries accused of “genocide” said they were responding to terrorist attacks. And all 3 of these actions and responses were eerily similar to the response of Israel in Gaza where, as of 23 April, at least 34,183 have been people killed (with 72% women and children), 77,084 wounded, and 1.7 million civilians displaced.

In 1948 alone, 15,000 Palestinians were killed and more than 800,000 displaced from their ancestral homes with Israel destroying 531 Palestinian towns and villages in 70 separate massacres. Dozens of 1000’s more have been killed and displaced since then (not even counting the current civilians killed and displaced since October).

You can call it apartheid, if the term genocide makes you uncomfortable. Or you could simply call it “an organized and systemic humanitarian and political oppression and forcible displacement of an indigenous people.”

Who calls it an apartheid state? Both Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu said that Israel’s apartheid is even more brutal and more devastating than South Africa’s was.

Since 1948, the U.S. has given Israel $300 billion in economic & military aid and has used its veto power in the U.N. Security Council 42 times to block resolutions condemning Israel. And just last week, the U.S. vetoed a U.N. resolution that would have paved the way for U.N. membership for Palestine.

Genocide and apartheid are old hat fro the U.S. (see Native Americans & Slavery). And I understand that a very vocal minority’s religious mythology dictates our unquestioning support for a state of Israel. But must that support include Israel’s oppression of an indigenous population?

Oil. It is a beautiful thing. As the light sparkles off it's shimmering iridescent surface a spilt puddle of it dances before the eyes. But if you saw your baby playing in a puddle of oil in your driveway you would probably call your pediatrician and if you caught your dog drinking it you would probably call the vet. Carbon dioxide, CFC's, nitric and nitrous oxide, and nitrogen and sulfur dioxide are produced when we burn it.  We get smog and acid rain and our used and spilled oil contains toxic metals such as lead, cadmium, arsenic, and chromium. 257 million gallons of oil seep into our water supply every year, not even counting catastrophic spills. Did you know that you can even commit suicide by locking yourself in an enclosed space with an internal combustion engine. God put all of the oil and coal thousands of feet and even miles below the surface of the Earth and we drill and dig it all up and set it on fire. In my painting the face of Nature watches in horror as mankind pollutes the air and water.

The Reality of Evolution, with the Assumption of Infinity, atop the Idea of God:

The Reality of Evolution: Goosebumps: a roughness of the skin produced by erection of its papillae especially from cold, fear, or a sudden feeling of excitement, Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary. When you become cold you may get goosebumps. These bumps do nothing to warm you. When you become frightened or emotionally freaked out you might get goosebumps. These bumps will do nothing to allay your fears or calm you down. But an animal with fur will be warmed by goosebumps as the bumps cause their hair to bristle and stand creating an air pocket of insulation for added warmth. These same goosebumps will make an animal with fur seem larger and perhaps more menacing to other animals. Getting goosebumps does not mean that you have fur, but it does mean that in the distant past you had a relative who did.

Evolution is a process, not an entity. The Old Testament never describes the process used by God to create Man. Imagine two children sitting at their kitchen table. One child says to the other that he believes in Mom, for Mom created dinner. But the other child disagrees and replies that no, Mom used the microwave and the blender and the cuisinart to make dinner, so obviously Mom does not exist. Both children are confused. Mom is an entity, the kitchen tools used only as a method or process. Those who say I believe in God so I do not believe in evolution are confusing entity and process. Those professing the reverse are also confusing these ideas. Both, however, are plainly ignorant of the facts of evolution and what is actually written in the Bible. The belief in God is not negated by the knowledge of the processes involved in the development of life on our planet. These ideas are not mutually exclusive. Besides if you believe in the Bible then you have to believe that Man has at least evolved since the time of Adam and Eve. If not then where did all our beautiful differences in skin tones, body types, hair and eye color come from; we would all look the same. Hey, remember when Grandma had that Chinese baby? No, no I don't. Exactly.

There are those that say their faith or opinion gives them the right to deny the existence of the evolutionary process, even though it "has" been scientifically proven again and again for all forms of life (even the flu virus mutates or evolves every year). But if you allow yourself to negate a truth simply because you find it uncomfortable, or overly complicated, then you must allow others to disregard truth for the same reasons. There are those who deny the Holocaust because it interferes with their version of faith or that they find the idea too complicated or unbelievable to have occurred. Will you respect their opinion and let it triumph over what you know to be the truth?

The Assumption of Infinity: There is nothing hidden that cannot be revealed. I believe not in limits. For me there are no limits to art, idea, beauty, expression, science, faith, creation and hope. I also believe that there can be no notion of the concept of infinitely big if there is not the belief in infinitely small. As the universe races outwards, so too will our race for what lies within.

The Idea of God: I have never met another who possesses a stronger faith than I. I have met those whose faith seems as strong, but how would I ever really know? And the strength of my faith could never discount or disprove the strength of another's. Even if there faith was one different from my own.

This painting represents my basic philosophy of existence.

Wheels is a reference to John Lennon’s song “Watching the Wheels.” But the man in my painting has three hands and the works meaning is in no way positive or affirmative like the lyrics of the song suggest. My figure is an an outsider with too much time on all of his hands who would regard the world around him with suspicion and mistrust to say the least.

This was my first stolen work. It was bought by a guy named Bill I worked with who promised to pay me “next pay day.” After turning into the following pay day I moved a new state and he probably figured I wouldn’t drive ten hours to collect $150. Stolen Time.

This painting was created by treating the surface of a canvas with a Lineed Oil and a Liquin Glaze and then dancing a flame from a candle across the surface while the canvas is slightly inverted. Once this layer of marks was dried, I used oil glazes to paint and decorate the surface.
