I actually don’t care who you vote for; just vote. Please just participate.
The United States is an oligarchy because 40% to 50% of our population routinely ignores their right to vote, disregards their right to engage and participate in this grand political experiment which is rapidly spinning out of control.
But please educate and properly inform yourself first. Take some interest in the history of our nation and the world. Read a book. Read a fucking book. Read a historical or religious biography (and not by some pseudo-intellectual talk show host). Read about the lives of these people whom we venerate and supposedly base our ideals and beliefs upon. Watch Ken Burns Civil War series. Read Dee Brown’s “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee” and learn about the fate of the indigenous peoples of our land. Read about Caesar, Napoleon, or Churchill. The same shit happening now is just repeating and intensifying itself.
Read and watch from a variety of diverse and serious news sources. There “are” neutral and objective sources of information. Be curious and interested in the course and fate of this country (and ultimately who will control your very lives).
And it’s alright to indulge yourself and watch your favorite cable news network. But remember that these are opinion and entertainment vehicles, not true sources of knowledge. And never forget; if you agree with everything you are reading or watching, then you are not educating or informing yourself. You are simply reinforcing and confirming your own beliefs and biases.
