Arm of Moses
I drew this in Florence. If you have ever been to visit this statue you may understand why I did not have time to "set up camp" and draw more of the figure. Moses's horns in the statue derive from the Septuagint's mistranslation from the Hebrew Scriptures of the rays of light emanating from Moses's head. Ironically it is also why the Septuagint mistranslated the Hebrew word "Almah," meaning young woman, in Isaiah 7:14 to "parthenos," which was Koine Greek for virgin since they really had no true word for "young woman." The New Testament author then based Matthew 1:23 “Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emman′u-el” upon this mistranslation.
